October 12, 2026. Bankr launched Papertrade, a trading platform that converts losses on Bitcoin and Ether perpetual contracts into PAPER tokens, which Bankr stakes automatically to earn USDC.
A post on X by @bankrbot at 16:21 UTC on October 12, 2026, showed the feature. A 100x ETH long position with a stop-loss hit minted 1,590 PAPER, which Bankr staked to earn USDC. The post invited users to try the platform from Bankr’s console or directly on X.
Papertrade allows trading Bitcoin and Ether perpetual contracts at up to 1,000x, with prices sourced from Hyperliquid. The minimum position size is $10,000, or $100 of margin at 100x. Positions above 100x require explicit confirmation. Opening trades incurs no fee, and open positions pay no funding. Winning trades are subject to a price-impact haircut, Papertrade’s 2% fee, and Bankr’s 1% fee on profits. Losing trades mint PAPER, which Bankr stakes automatically once the balance reaches 1,000 PAPER, the platform’s minimum stake. Staked PAPER earns a share of Papertrade’s USDC pool, with claims landing in the user’s Papertrade balance after Bankr’s 1% fee.
Users can fund trades with USDC on Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, or Ethereum, or with other tokens such as ETH or WETH, which are swapped to USDC for a fee. Deposits typically arrive in under a minute, though delays of up to three minutes may occur. The first deposit incurs a one-time 1 USDC activation fee. Withdrawals of 10 USDC or more take about four minutes to Arbitrum or five minutes to Base, minus Hyperliquid’s 1 USDC withdrawal fee, Relay’s bridge fee to Base, and any Bankr fees owed.
Papertrade operates as a counterparty pool, currently capped at approximately $5 million. Profits the pool cannot pay immediately enter a first-in, first-out queue, paid only from subsequent losses. The pool has no backstop or expiry, and queued funds cannot be withdrawn until paid. Prices are sourced solely from Hyperliquid’s best bid/offer midpoint, with no staleness or deviation checks. On October 10, 2026, two traders exploited this to extract about $2.2 million from the pool, causing a 55% drawdown without depleting it.
Leverage increases risk. At 1,000x, a 0.05% move triggers liquidation, and at 100x, a 0.95% move does. Liquidations forfeit the entire margin, and users cannot add margin or partially close positions. Wins are heavily reduced. A 0.1% move retains about 74% of the gain, and a 1% move about 88%, before Papertrade’s 2% and Bankr’s 1% fees. Papertrade’s contracts are upgradeable with a seven-day timelock, and a pause-guardian multisig can retire markets instantly.
PAPER yield depends on the pool’s status. Staking pays well only when the pool is at its cap. Otherwise, stakers earn only a share of fees, and nothing while winners are queued. As of October 11, 2026, Papertrade’s total value locked had fallen about 49% from its peak, and volume had declined, reducing losses available to pay stakers and the queue.
Bankr integrates Papertrade into its terminal chat, X, and Agent API. The first trade in a chat, any trade over $250 of margin, any trade above 100x, and any trade requiring a deposit returns a preview with liquidation price and fees, awaiting user confirmation. Smaller follow-up trades in the same chat execute immediately. Bankr also offers a scheduled routine that runs a hedged long and short on the same market, minting PAPER from the losing leg. Each cycle costs about 5% of the pair’s margin at 50x, or about 8% if a leg is liquidated first. The routine only runs while the pool is at its cap, and outside Bankr Club, it is limited to five runs.
Papertrade is real-money trading. PAPER is a token minted from losses, not a practice mode. It cannot be sold or transferred; its only use is staking to earn USDC. As of October 12, 2026, 6.1 billion PAPER were staked, earning $1.19 million in USDC over the previous 24 hours, or $195.63 per 1 million PAPER.
